SUMMARY – MORNING PRESIDENTIAL PRESS CONFERENCE – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2023

Highlights of this morning's presidential press conference: Mexico responds to Hurricane Otis damage in Guerrero; Government to coordinate dialogue among authorities, Grupo Mexico, and representatives of communities affected by the company's contamination of the Sonora River; President responds to fake news

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that Hurricane Otis severely affected the coast of Guerrero, and therefore Plan DN-III has already been deployed. It is possible that the President will visit the affected areas. No loss of human lives has been reported. Otis made landfall as a category 5 hurricane and was downgraded to category 2.

The President announced that the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources will coordinate a dialogue with the Environmental Attorney’s Office, Grupo Mexico, and representatives of the communities affected by the contamination of the Sonora River, in order to repair the damages. He indicated that information on the progress of the agreements will be made available.

President López Obrador emphasized that Sonora has guaranteed growth, as it provides strategic minerals for future development, such as lithium and copper. He highlighted the construction of solar and liquefaction plants, as well as improvements in the port of Guaymas and customs stations with modern equipment.

The Chief Executive confirmed that he has spoken with investors seeking to participate in the copper industry and in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This in view of the demand for the mineral for the production of electric cars and the opportunity that the Interoceanic Corridor will represent for connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

– It is not true the first new Mexicana Airlines flight has taken off. The video broadcast where a plane loses a tire on takeoff, corresponds to a plane in Canada in 2020.

– It is false that Mexicana de Aviación is selling tickets and has defrauded customers. The new airline will be inaugurated on Saturday, December 2.

– The media in favor of the judicial branch in the elimination of the 13 trusts. Of the more than 23,000 articles generated on the subject, close to 13,000 supported the judicial branch.
