SUMMARY
Mexico Grows at Twice the OECD Average with Shared Prosperity
The Mexican economy grew 1.4%, double the OECD average (0.7%), and its
growth ranked seventh worldwide. President Claudia Sheinbaum
highlighted investment in housing and infrastructure and expressed her
desire to be remembered as «a good president who did everything for
the well-being of the people.»
«Neoliberalism is over in Mexico; it won’t return»: Sheinbaum
According to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the
Caribbean (ECLAC), Mexico accounted for 60% of the reduction in
poverty in Latin America between 2014 and 2024. The President
contrasted 36 years of neoliberalism and concentration of wealth with
«Mexican Humanism,» based on higher wages, public investment, and the
well-being of the people.
Mexico Is in Vogue: Record Tourism with Benefits for Communities
From January to August, 67.7 million international travelers arrived
in Mexico (+6.3%), and spent more than US$24.15 billion. Sheinbaum
emphasized that the growth in tourism must translate into more income
for artisans, businesspeople, and communities-not just for large corporations.
Jalisco: Investigate Repression and Guarantee Clean Water
The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) is investigating
allegations of repression against protesters in Guadalajara. Sheinbaum
reiterated that police abuses must be punished and announced that the
National Water Commission (Conagua) is working on solutions to the
problems of the supply and quality of drinking water. This includes a
technical review and a subsequent dialogue with the Jalisco state government.
