Good Governance protected 83.8 billion pesos (US$4.84 billion) and achieved a record 97.7% compliance rate in asset declarations. Transparency for the People resolved 8,222 appeals. President Claudia Sheinbaum declared that “preventing misconduct or corruption comes first.”
Closing Loopholes for Corruption
Legal changes are being proposed to prevent offenses from becoming time-barred, expedite sanctions, and ensure restitution for damages to the public treasury, including in agencies such as Infonavit. Recovered funds return to the people. For example, proceeds from the García Luna case were allocated to schools in Guerrero.
Responsible Debt: Investment, Not Current Expenditures
The President explained that debt is measured relative to GDP and is allocated to infrastructure, not current expenditures. Mexico ranks third among OECD countries with the lowest debt, and Sheinbaum noted that “there is nothing to worry about”; the ability to pay “is guaranteed.”
Privileged pensions: legal does not mean fair
Sheinbaum proposed making the pensions of former officials such as Ernesto Zedillo and ex-Minister of Finance Guillermo Ortiz more transparent and reviewing them: “They may be legal, but they aren’t very fair,” she noted. The Good Governance Ministry reported annual savings of 2.50 billion pesos (US$140 million) by correcting pension payments that do not comply with existing norms.
To represent Mexico, a single flag
Sheinbaum argued that anyone running for president or governor should hold only Mexican citizenship. “If you’re going to represent the country, who do you swear allegiance to? Who do you represent?”
