Summary of the main points in President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily press conference

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that the Federal Electoral Tribunal’s resolution to sanction him for gender-based political violence against opposition hopeful Xóchitl Gálvez, exposes the body in its full glory because it lied and altered his words to accuse him of this offense. Therefore, he reiterated that a reform of the Judicial Branch of government is urgently needed so that judges and members of boards of election are selected by popular vote.

The President revealed that his latest book on political questions will be published in March 2024. It will be dedicated to young people so that they can learn about the noble profession of politics and of what it means to serve the people and seek their happiness.

President López Obrador said that the arrest of Morelos prosecutor Uriel N., was legal, since his immunity as an official protected him from federal crimes, but the capture and judicial proceedings against him are for common crimes, derived from the cover-up in the femicide perpetrated against Ariadna Fernanda.

The Mexican government reported that sections 5, 6, and 7 of the Maya Train are 30% completed, while the construction of the Tulum airport is at 57%. Both projects will be ready by December 2023. The first train is already in Cancun, with static tests still underway, and two more will be delivered before the end of August.
