Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO condemned the lack of definition shown by the U.S. and Canada regarding the police attack on the Mexican embassy in Ecuador. He asked the two countries for a clear statement on the issue; An El Heraldo poll shows the Mexican president's approval rating is 71% nationally; the President announced that before the end of September, Mexico will have the best public health system in the world; the IMSS Bienestar program provides free medical care and pharmaceuticals to over 53.24 million Mexicans without social security in the 23 states that have federalized their health services. The program has also invested over US$225.14 million in refurbishing 214 hospitals. In addition, 31 new hospitals have been put into operation and 33 are under construction; The new The Clinic is Ours program will have a budget of US$360 million to improve and refurbish health-care centers; it will provide direct support to local committees, which will define how to invest the resources.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO thanked the international community for their solidarity with Mexico following the attack by Ecuadorian police on the country’s embassy; Mexico broke diplomatic relations with Ecuador. It will file a complaint before the International Court of Justice and will seek the support of foreign ministries and member states of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and will send a letter to the UN Secretary General to be presented to the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council; According to the National Statistics Institute (INEGI), the perception of public insecurity at the national level dropped to 59.1% in December 2023. This is the lowest level in 10 years; in noting today’s solar eclipse, the President recalled that it was also the signal for the founding of Mexico Tenochtitlan in pre-colonial times.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO reiterated his call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip; the President highlighted the strength of the peso, which is trading at 16.47 to the dollar, a level not achieved since 2015. AMLO attributed the result to investor confidence in Mexico given success in the fight against corruption; the President criticized the judicial system for its alignment with vested interests; the Mexican government will not break diplomatic relations with Ecuador, after Quito declared the Mexican ambassador to Ecuador persona non grata. Nor will the financial support program for Ecuadorian migrants be suspended.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO welcomed the Federal Electoral Tribunal’s decision not to prohibit the distribution and sale of his book as a blow against censorship and in favor of freedom of expression; the President indicated that the federal government will provide protection to candidates in the states that cannot do so, and urged collaboration from all authorities in the three branches of government; it is not true that Pemex will cut up to 46% of crude oil exports. Petróleos Mexicanos production is 1.85 million barrels per day, half of which is earmarked to refineries and the other half for exports; the President will ask Federal Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero to present all the information on the case of Luis Donaldo Colosio, PRI presidential candidate assassinated in 1994.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO expressed his confidence that he and his administration can face the onslaught of media attacks thanks to the support, honesty, and intelligence of the Mexican people; Two months ago, the digital campaign against President López Obrador and presidential candidate Claudia Sheinbaum began. They do not have the power to do so and it would violate the constitution; the Mexican government condemned the killing of Bertha Gisela Gaytán and Adrián Guerrero, Morena candidates for mayor and city council of Celaya, Guanajuato and pledged that that the homicides will not go unpunished; the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection has received 108 requests to provide protection to candidates for federal office, of which 86 have been accepted, 10 have been declined, and 12 are under risk assessment; between March 19 and April 1, the Mexican government seized 12 clandestine drug labs, which prevented the production of more than 32.43 tons of methamphetamine, with a street value of over US$589.39 million.
