President Andrés Manuel López Obrador insisted that there is nothing personal in collecting back taxes from large companies. What is involved is complying with the task of defending the interests of the majority of the people. «We are not persecuting anyone, but we do seek to ensure that there are no fiscal privileges. There must be justice,» he explained.

The head of Tax Administration Service (SAT), Antonio Martínez, reported that from 2019 to 2023 collection levels reached a record high, increasing from 3 trillion to 4.5 trillion pesos (US$170 billion to US$260 billion).

The Mexican Government decreed that the area occupied by the Tangolunda golf course in Huatulco, Oaxaca is a Protected Natural Area, which was under concession to businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego. It explained that at the end of the concession, a proposal was made to the magnate to purchase the land for 420 million pesos (US$26.95 million) with the resources to be invested in assistance for students in Oaxaca; however, Salinas Pliego rejected the offer. To avoid future appropriations of the land, which is property of the Nation, the zone was declared a Protected Natural Area.
