Summary of the main points in President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily press conference

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated the reduction in homicides in the country. According to INEGI, they decreased 9.7% in 2022, with respect to what was registered in 2021; while crime has fallen 17% so far in the current administration. *It is projected that at the end of the government it will end at -20%. The President emphasized that this achievement is the result of the work of the security cabinet meetings and to address the root causes of violence.

The President denounced a fascist, irresponsible and very risky campaign against his government, promoted by characters and manipulation media linked to Salinas de Gortari, by spreading the word that if anything happens to a journalist or presidential aspirant, it will be his fault. President López Obrador called on his adversaries to calm down and reflect on their actions; he reminded that his government does not act in a perverse manner nor does it repress anyone, as it has the support and backing of the people.

President López Obrador thanked his US counterpart, Joe Biden, for filing a complaint against the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, for ordering the installation of giant buoys and wire fences in the Río Bravo to stop the migratory flow, which violates national sovereignty and international agreements.

The head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, informed that the Program for the Regularization of Foreign Vehicles, which is applied in 17 states, has achieved the regularization of 1,633,440 vehicles, with which 4,133,600,000 pesos have been obtained for the improvement of streets and avenues. The program ends on September 30.

The Mexican Government informed that between July 11 and 24, 17,084 people were arrested throughout the country, of which 16,764 were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office. 37 femicides were arrested and 14 sentenced. 30 clandestine laboratories were seized, preventing the production of 143 tons of methamphetamines, with a value of more than 33,717 million pesos.
