SUMMARY – MORNING PRESIDENTIAL PRESS CONFERENCE – WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2023

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that a new minimum wage increase will be announced at the beginning of December, effective for 2024.

The President reported that on November 20, the decree was published mandating that the 18,000 kilometers of railroad tracks in the country be used for passenger transportation. He reiterated that the current concession holders will have preference to offer the service; if they do not rise to the occasion, the Government may assign the rights to the ministries of National Defense (Sedena), the Navy (Semar) or private interests.

President López Obrador ratified Arturo Reyes Sandoval as Director of the National Polytechnic Institute.

During President López Obrador’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, it was agreed to help the United States deal with the fentanyl crisis. From Mexico, the Ministry of the Navy is leading efforts to prevent the arrival of precursor chemicals by controlling ports. «It’s about protecting life,» The President explained.

President López Obrador pointed out that he did not support any candidate in the recent Argentine presidential elections, although he reiterated that he does not agree with conservative thinking in any country in the world. He rejected privatization and authoritarian policies.

The Mexican Government will open more lanes on the Tijuana-US border to reduce travel times. Before the end of the current administration, the Central Customs Office will be installed in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

-It is not true that the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence Against Women (CONAVIM) has delivered irregular assistance to shelters.
