SUMMARY – MORNING PRESIDENTIAL PRESS CONFERENCE – WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2024

President Andres Manuel López Obrador exposed the National Action Party congressional deputies who voted in the Constitutional Points Commission against the constitutional reform to allow the use of freight railroad tracks for passenger trains. He recalled that the PAN legislators also voted against the pension for senior citizens being codified as a constitutional right.

The President criticized the opposition for seeking to violate the Constitution by not accepting the distribution of proportional representation seats in accordance with the law, and trying to change the criteria established in the Constitution by falsely arguing that there is an over-representation of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies. He mentioned that Lorenzo Córdova, as President of National Electoral Institute (INE), has defended the distribution of such seats as established in the Constitution, but he now argues the opposite.
