According to an Enkoll opinion poll, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador enjoys a national average approval rating of 77%. By state, the president’s approval reaches 86% in Guerrero and Sinaloa and 84% in Baja California, Tabasco, and Yucatán. Eleven other states report an approval rating of over 80%.
President López Obrador explained that the blackouts that occurred yesterday in some regions of the country were partly due to the intense heat. He indicated that the National Energy Control Center established an alert and will continue monitoring the situation to ensure that the electricity supply does not falter. The President indicated there is sufficient electric power generation capacity.
The President reiterated that through a decree it was established that imported yellow corn cannot be employed for domestic use or consumption. In addition, the National Council of Science and Technology (Conahcyt) is investigating the possible negative health effects caused by transgenic corn.
Starting on May 13, President López Obrador will make an evaluation tour of the IMSS Bienestar health-care program, and after June 2 he will undertake another visit to insure that the health-care system is already in place in the 23 states that federalized their medical services. The program provides medical attention to 50 million people who are not enrolled in the social security system.
In the Who’s Who in Lies segment, the main points were:
-Right-wing intellectuals, conservative politicians and journalists were exposed for being scandalized by the release of information on the corruption case of María Amparo Casar, who for 20 years unduly received a pension corresponding to the death of her husband, although the authorities determined that he committed suicide and therefore the benefits do not apply.
-80% of the accounts in the social network X that defend María Amparo Casar also participate in the dirty campaign Narco Presidente.
-It is not true that the Mexican government has improperly disclosed personal data in the Casar corruption case, since the General Law on Personal Data states that the reserved nature of such information may not be invoked when dealing with cases related to acts of corruption.
The morning presidential press conference on May 17 will be held from Tapachula, Chiapas. On the same day, President López Obrador will meet with his Guatemalan counterpart, Bernardo Arévalo. In addition, it was announced that there will be no morning press conferences on Thursday May 30 and Friday May 31.
