Sheinbaum To Trump: “Mexico Is A Free, Independent, Sovereign Country” - Ep 34 of Soberania

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: New legal regime, Oil for Well-being, seeks to rescue and strengthen PEMEX; The director of the state-owned oil company Víctor Rodríguez said that Pemex will implement republican austerity plan, with the objective of achieving savings of US$4.37 billion, increasing productivity, and reducing the number of subsidiary companies; President Claudio Sheinbaum announced that her administration will promote electrification in indigenous communities in Durango, through conventional infrastructure or solar panels to ensure clean energy; the President announced that her government is evaluating whether to respond to threats from the United States to impose tariffs on Mexico products with its own import duties, but will prioritize a dialogue.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: the National Public Security System reported a decrease in the daily average of intentional homicides in 2024, registering a 18% decline in October compared to February 2019. High impact crimes and federal crimes decreased by 35.8% and 22.1%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019; Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch noted that in the first 39 days of the new administration, National Security Strategy action axis have been implemented, focused on strengthening investigation capacities and collaboration between federal and state authorities; Claudia Sheinbaum addressed Mexican migrants in the United States, assuring them that “we will always defend you.” Sheinbaum also stated that she will seek to meet with President-elect Donald Trump's transition cabinet and Mexican authorities to advance coordination between the two countries; the President indicated that she is working on a justice plan for the Mayo people of Sonora and Sinaloa. The National Housing Commission will provide 500,000 homes earmarked for women heads of household, the indigenous population, people with disabilities, senior citizens, and young people, with a rental program for the latter category; Mexico will elect its judges and justices for the first time ever in 2025: the call was issued for registering candidates; President Sheinbaum launched the “Harvesting Sovereignty” program to boost the agricultural sector through three central support programs; the President announced that she will establish communication with Donald Trump's transition team and reaffirmed her commitment to defend Mexicans in the United States

She expressed her intention to discuss the broad bilateral agenda in the future, topics for which she has already sent a formal letter; the President announced a plan to strengthen technological innovation and patent production in Mexico; Sheinbaum reported that all justice plans for indigenous peoples and communities are being reviewed. These plans will have a special focus on indigenous women. In addition, she stressed the importance of further concretizing the constitutional reform to guarantee full rights to indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples and communities.
