During Garcia Harfuch’s tenure, crime rates in CDMX decreased more than in the previous 30 years; the President congratulated Osmar Olvera for winning the bronze medal in the 3-meter springboard diving competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO exposed the National Action Party congressional deputies who voted in the Constitutional Points Commission against the constitutional reform to allow the use of freight railroad tracks for passenger trains. He recalled that the PAN legislators also voted against the pension for senior citizens being codified as a constitutional right; the President criticized the opposition for seeking to violate the Constitution by not accepting the distribution of proportional representation seats in accordance with the law, and trying to change the criteria established in the Constitution by falsely arguing that there is an over-representation of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies; the Mexican Government has saved US$17.6 billion by combatting fuel theft. The amount saved is equivalent to the construction cost of the Dos Bocas refinery, Tabasco, US$16.80 billion dollars; it is not true that foreign direct investment in Mexico decreased in 2023. The Mexican Government has broken records by attracting US185.3 billion and the figure is expected to exceed US$200 billion by the end of 2024.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO said that it is very regrettable that the International Court of Justice still has not resolved the complaint filed over the Ecuadoran police raid on the Mexican embassy in Quito, in which former Vice President Jorge Glas was arrested; President emphasized that the Mexican economy has passed the test and withstood the fall in the world's stock markets, pressured by the instability of U.S. job numbers. The Mexican peso continues to be the second most appreciated currency worldwide in relation to the US dollar; AMLO stressed that all the information provided by Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada on the Sinaloa cartel's links with US and Mexican officials will be very important and said that in the drug kingpin’s upcoming trial in the United States he will have to make it clear who helped him, who protected him, and what agreements he reached with US government agencies; Minister of Security and Citizen Protection Rosa Icela Rodríguez reported that in July 2024 femicides declined 35.6% compared to December 2018, when Lopez Obrador’s administration took office.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: In response to the fall in international markets due to a slowdown in US job numbers, AMLO said Mexico can resist its effects because the economic strategy promoted by his administration has worked, positive indicators are being posted, and the country’s economy is strong in the face of any contingency. On August 3, President López Obrado headed the ceremony launching the Dos Bocas, Tabasco refinery, which produced 10% of all gasoline consumed in the country on its first day of operations. In 2018, Mexico imported 90% of the country’s gasoline requirements, now only 10% is imported.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: the latest Mendoza Blanco y Asociados poll shows that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has an 83% approval rating;
President López Obrador ruled out a response to the letter from the UN Special Rapporteur in which they express concern about the Judicial reform. He said that they were not acting responsibly and charged that the UN and its agencies engage in unproductive diplomacy; AMLO welcomed Claudia Sheinbaum’s announcement that she will continue with the presidential press conferences as well as her cabinet appointments; following his conference call with his counterparts from Brazil and Colombia regarding the post-election situation in Venezuela, López Obrador agreed that what is most important is to avoid violence and act with prudence, and therefore it is necessary to wait for the official results. He criticized the U.S. State Department’s decision to recognized opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner; thus far during the current presidential administration, the homicide mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants has decreased 5%, an important achievement since during Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña’s administrations, the rate increased 12% and 7%, respectively.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador emphasized that the awakening of the Mexican people is unique, a vanguard phenomenon in the world. "(It is) an example of political maturity, awareness, citizen participation, and the struggle for freedom, justice, and democracy. There is a renewal underway," he said; the President called on the Supreme Court justices to resolve the cases of large corporations that owe more than US$1.33 billion in taxes, which could be invested in scholarships for basic education students; AMLO criticized OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro statements that the Venezuelan presidential elections were fraudulent when he has no proof. He reiterated that what would be best is to wait for the official results and for there to be transparency so that there are no doubts of an alleged fraud. "[The OAS] seems to be an appendage of hegemonic, conservative, authoritarian, anti-democratic governments," he said; the housing plan for young people and workers that Claudia Sheinbaum will promote when she becomes President will be attractive and successful, López Obrador said, recalling that it proposes support for the most vulnerable sectors.

Highlights of this morning’s press conference include: Following comments by the head of the National Electoral Institute, Guadalupe Taddei, that the election of judges and justices proposed by the Judicial Reform would require a budget similar to that of the presidential election, about $510 million, AMLO proposed that the judicial branch contribute half of the resources of the funds it has in trusts, more than US$1.07 billion; the President emphasized that there are enough public resources for Claudia Sheinbaum's administration to carry out its project, US$2.15 billion for social programs and priority projects during the first quarter of 2025; the Mexican Government’s fiscal policy is underpinned by four pillars of the Transformation project: support for family income, bolstering of specific items on the supply end, regional development, and strengthening public finances.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO said that the Judicial Reform at the federal level should be replicated at the state level so that citizens elect judges and justices, since in many cases governors impose them; after the meeting he had with the parents of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students, President López Obrador reported that it was a positive meeting that will be repeated on August 27 when additional information on the investigation of the case will be provided; the President confirmed that the US government was in talks with Joaquín Guzmán López, son of drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, for his possible surrender. However, he reiterated that the information provided by Washington on the arrest of the two Mexican drug kingpins has been limited, so there are still many questions to be resolved; AMLO reiterated that Mexico will wait for the results of the vote count in Venezuela before congratulating the winner of the presidential election. He said that if there are doubts about the results, a recount of votes should be undertaken to make the election transparent. The President criticized the interference of the OAS and the propaganda of foreign governments against the democratic process in Venezuela.

Highlights of this morning’s presidential press conference include: AMLO announced that as of next Saturday, the Dos Bocas refinery in Tabasco will begin producing gasoline, with output expected reach between 250,000 and 260,000 barrels per day; the President said the report sent by the US State Department regarding the flight that transported Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López to Texas, which indicates that no US agency was involved in the transportation of these drug lords, is insufficient. He added that if there is no more information on the case, he would communicate with Joe Biden to clarify the issue; according to the National Statistics Institute, the perception of insecurity in Mexico dropped to 59.4% in June 2024, eight points less than in June 2022; the Mexican Government will not take a position on the Venezuelan presidential elections results until the process is concluded by the competent authorities, the President said.
