Security with Results: Intentional Homicides in Mexico Drop 42%

Intentional homicides fell 42% between September 2024 and January 2026, equivalent to 36 fewer murders every day. In 17 months, high-impact crimes decreased 31%; femicides 12.7%, kidnappings for extortion purposes 50%, and extortions 30.3%.

Continuity and Strengthening of the 4T Security Strategy

The current strategy reinforces the policy implemented by López Obrador. The National Guard was strengthened, intelligence improved following the constitutional reform with such efforts also applied in the field of public security, and coordination between states and security institutions was consolidated.

Mexican Solidarity with Cuba

President Claudia Sheinbaum clarified that oil sent to Cuba is mostly based on commercial contracts, with another part earmarked as humanitarian aid, without affecting the Mexican people. She reiterated that the country will continue its policy of offering humanitarian solidarity.

Electoral Reform: Less Money, More Votes, and Participatory Democracy

The proposed reform maintains minority participation through proportional representation, aims for those competing for legislative positions to compete for the popular vote, reduces costs, strengthens oversight, promotes participatory democracy, and establishes voting mechanisms for Mexicans living abroad.

Sheinbaum Questions U.S. on Arms Trafficking

The President charged that U.S. actions to control the flow of arms to Mexico are insufficient. She made the remarks after a New York Times report appeared on .50 caliber ammunition—military-grade—in cartel hands. Mexico is reviewing the report to demand explanations and open a direct dialogue on arms control.
