Summary of the main points in President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily press conference

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador congratulated Spaniards for not falling into the right-wing trap in yesterday’s general elections, won by the left alliance, headed by Pedro Sánchez, won. He expressed his pleasure that conservatism, as represented by the Popular Party and Vox, did not sweep the elections, as Spaniards showed that they no longer want authoritarianism.

The head of the Executive Branch pointed out that the downgrading of Pemex’s credit rating by Fitch does not affect it, since it is one of the companies of the neoliberal model used for speculation. The President explained that Pemex’s debt has decreased 15.5%, with respect to 2018, thanks to the reduction in oil extraction and refining costs.

In the section “It’s wasn’t me who said it”, President López Obrador showed a graph from the National Statistics Institute (INEGI) indicating the downward trend in inflation, which clocked in at 4.79% in the first two weeks of July, 0.14% less in the second half of June. The President emphasized that this is good news because it strengthens the family economy.

Section 4 of the Maya Train, which runs from Izamal, Yucatan, to Cancun, Quintana Roo, has 77% of the 239 km of double track that comprise the route completed. This stretch includes the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, which will open a new area for visitors on September 2, called Chichén Viejo. The general director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto, announced that, in coordination with the Yucatán state government, the History of the People of Yucatán Museum will be built in the Ateneo Peninsular of Mérida, which is under restoration. State Governor Mauricio Vila reported that the IE-TRAM, 100% electric transportation that will connect 178 neighborhoods and Mérida with the Tren Maya, will be ready in the fourth quarter of 2023.
