President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated his invitation to all Mexicans to attend the commemoration of the Grito de Independencia, which marks the country’s struggle for independence from Spain, in Mexico City’s Zócalo square. He said the event will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a musical performance by Jóvenes Semilleros, in which «Yahritza y su esencia» will also participate; at 10:00 p.m. Grupo Frontera will perform; at 11:00 p.m. there will be a civic ceremony and at the end, Grupo Frontera will continue with the concert.

The National Lottery is inviting the population to participate in the grand special drawing on September 15, which has as a guaranteed jackpot the Official House of Cancun, valued at more than 197 million pesos (US$11.5 million). The cost of the lottery ticket is 500 pesos (US$29.19). The proceeds will be used for the construction of a hospital in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.

In response to reports that debt will be contracted as part of the Federal Expenditure Budget for 2024, the President explained that every year a percentage is allocated in case there is a deficit between what is received and what is needed to carry out work projects, but he clarified that «we do not go beyond what Congress authorizes. There is no future problem that could turn into an economic or financial crisis. We have nothing to fear, because public finances are being managed very responsibly. This government will close with a lower debt level than during the Calderón and Peña Nieto administrations.”

President López Obrador announced that on September 19 a tribute will be held in honor of the victims of the 1985 earthquake, at 7:00 a.m. in the capital’s Zócalo square. On that day there will also be a nationwide drill at 11:00 am.

The President highlighted the September 13 inauguration of the first stage of the El Cuchillo II aqueduct. This project will enable 500,000 liters of water per second to be delivered to Monterrey and its metropolitan area.
