Evolution of gasoline prices
The head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO), Iván Escalante, presented an analysis of the behavior of magna gasoline prices:
– Calderón’s administration: 22.9% increase.
– Peña Nieto’s administration: 42.8% increase.
– López Obrador’s administration: 5.2% decrease.
– During Sheinbaum’s current administration: 0.4% decrease.
Escalante emphasized that the increase in gasoline prices has remained below accumulated inflation since October 2019. He rejected accusations against Morena’s parliamentary caucus regarding the alleged refusal to limit the price of gasoline to below 20 pesos (US$0.97), indicating that there is no evidence to support such a claim.
Presentation of the 2025-2030 National Development Plan
Deputy Minister of Finance Edgar Amador presented the 2025-2030 National Development Plan, which establishes the country’s economic, social, and political priorities. The plan’s general axes are:
– Governance with justice and citizen participation.
– Development with well-being and integral humanism.
– Moral economy and decent employment.
– Sustainable development.
The intersectional axes include basic equality, public innovation for national technological development, and recognition of the rights of indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities.
Coordinator of Presidential Advisors Jesús Ramírez Cuevas reiterated that Article 26 of the Constitution guarantees democratic participation in national planning.

President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that, as of January 6, former Veracruz governor Cuitláhuac García will take over as head of the National Natural Gas Control Center (CENEGAS). Sheinbaum also proposed recovering the domestic production of goods that was lost during the neoliberal period, strengthening the economy with national and foreign companies based on the principles of sustainability, well-being, and justice.

The President declared that migrants should not be linked to violence and criticized the mass deportations proposed by Donald Trump. She said Mexico is prepared to receive deportees and highlighted the importance of legal migration. This month she will meet with consuls to reinforce attention to Mexicans living abroad.

The President emphasized that the ‘People’s Mañanera’ seeks to inform, debate, and combat disinformation in networks and media.
She reiterated the responsibility of the media to inform truthfully, taking up the case of the New York Times report on fentanyl as an example of questionable information.
Sheinbaum highlights reduction in the price of the basic food basket to 910 pesos.
The President reported that, thanks to an agreement with retailers and producers, the price of the basic food basket was reduced from 1,039 to 910 pesos (US$50.29 to US$44.05). She also emphasized that this new agreement guarantees a lower price compared to previous pacts.
